Pants Role Productions

Founded in 2020 by Theo Claveles, Pants Role Productions is dedicated to expanding and celebrating queer voices in opera. Our work reimagines the traditions of the classical stage through the lens of queer experience, making space for stories that reflect the full spectrum of gender and identity.

Our debut project, Genderfach, uplifts trans and non-binary artists by offering new interpretations of canonical works, honoring the past while envisioning a more inclusive future. In an art form rich with queer artistry and supported by queer audiences, too many stories remain untold. Pants Role Productions shines light on those voices, challenging the dominance of cisgender and heteronormative narratives that have long shaped the industry.

Through the support of grants, partnerships, and community-based crowdfunding, we are building a sustainable home for queer-led storytelling in opera. Our mission is to transform the operatic landscape, centering authenticity and liberation in every story we tell.

Trailer

GENDERFACH that tells the stories of queer opera singers shedding heteronormative and cisnormative interpretations of operatic repertoire. In so doing, this film amplifies, celebrates, and uplifts queer and trans voices. This film rejects oppressive history and unapologetically claims that all roles, arias, and operas can be transformed to center modern queer perspectives, reinventing the genre itself to be more inclusive and celebratory.
